Let me start by making sure the message from your administration is very clear and concise. Each and every one of you have a decision to make whether you go to work if your job is open or stay home because of the possibility of contracting and/or passing “COVID-19” to you and/or your loved ones. We have and will continue to tell ALL of the Membership IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE GOING TO WORK BECAUSE OF A LEGITIMATE REASON OR CONCERN RELATED TO COVID-19, PLEASE STAY HOME.
IF THE EMPLOYER TAKES ADVERSE ACTION AGAINST YOU FOR DOING SO, WE WILL DEFEND YOU TO THE FULLEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. Also, as your Business Manager, I legally, for multiple reasons, CAN NOT shut down any or all jobs. We do have Members that have expressed to me that he or she MUST work to protect the safety of the public. To those Members at hospitals, airports, public utilities and Transit systems to name a few, I say take all precautions extremely serious and follow all CDC recommendations. Also make sure that you communicate with your employer, as well as your business agent if you ever feel that your safety or well-being is compromised. This pandemic is constantly changing, and as your administration, we will continue to communicate with you over the new developments, the impact it has on our Membership, and what we are doing to minimize that impact. We ask for your patience and understanding as we work to understand and respond to this unprecedented situation. Remember Brothers and Sisters, we have never seen a crisis like this in our lifetimes – please make safe and smart decisions. Jobs will be there when the Stay at Home order expires.
